Right now there are seven, but that's still pretty low. Out of 200+ novels written by Salgari, only THREE were available in the whole English-speaking World until recently. With the popularity that the works of H.Ridder Haggard and Jules Verne were having at the time you'd think somebody would've bothered to translate his books and publish them. And yet when his books were selling like hotcakes all over Europe in the late 19th century/early 20th century they were unheard of in the U.S and the British Empire. His numerous books have been extremely influential in numerous authors, filmmakers and even politicians. His novels are swashbucking tales of pirates, lost treasures and exploring ruined cities. When I was learning Italian my professor loaned me a book to practice my reading called Il Corsaro Nero ( The Black Corsair).this was my introduction to the works of Emilio Salgari.Ĭhances are you've never heard of him,but Salgari is an extremely popular author all over the World.except in the Anglosphere.
